Don Andrus - Prince Edward Island

The new paintings are part of a series titled BIRD. The title of course refers to Charlie Parker, and in the case of my paintings has to do with the fact they evolved out of a large group of drawings produced in the last two years. These drawings have a strong improvisational character, succeeding drawings coming out of preceding drawings, building on themes previously established. The logic of the paintings is entirely in the make-up of their individual structures and a group of them results in a composition which can vary according to addition or elimination of individual works.
