Sister Marie Héléne Allain
Sister Marie Héléne Allain’s artistic process traces a spiritual quest and her sculptures chart its path. While it may initially appear that her work embodies the principles of pure form, the making of the work itself marks the movement toward a state of grace and a perception of wholeness with all creation. She arranges her materials in three-dimensional assemblages and, through both carving and juxtaposing forms and materials, Allain seeks to express her relationship to the divine dimensions of the land and its substance in stone, wood and metal. The stones comprising her sculptures convey a sense of history; her art bears witness to lives once lived and suggests in its material presence an ageless strength and gentleness of spirit.
